Artistic Replication Technology (ART) brings your ideas to life ... in foam!

ART can work with many different kinds of models.

Organic geometry models of CLAY, WAX, PLASTIC, etc.

We can also use digital models with the extensions:  .DWG, .DXF, .STL

This is a photo of an actual chased wax model about 5" tall.

The first step is to prepare and scan the model.

We use a state of the art 3D laser scanner with .001" resolution.

The scanning strategy is based on the model, but we can scan reliefs, indexes, and rotationally as necessary to produce the most accurate foam armature.

The scan data is collected in a "point cloud" style by the computer

aided design software (CAD).  The model is edited and prepared for machining.  Machine tool files are prepared by a computer aided manufacturing program (CAM).

Milling of the foam is performed on a 4 axis computer numerical control (CNC) high speed milling center.  Mill at speeds are from 300 to 1000 inches per minute.  We can produce a very accurate armature in a very short time.

This is a finished foam armature ready for claying up by the artist.

Notice the model in the lower right corner.  The model is about 5" high

with the finished armature being approximately 50" tall for a 10:1 enlargement.

Of course the quality of the armature is dependant on the quality of the model. In this case, we not only reproduced but contoured the stripes and the hair in the mane of the Zebra.
